a trip to the outside...

Alaska refers to the lower forty-eight as the "outside"....

This last week I ventured from my rural Alaskan abode to visit my fam for an early Christmas celebration....I have recorded here for you, several highlights...

Day One: Early morning drive through icy, moonlit and moose-lined mountain roads. Enjoyed the natural high of the airport atmosphere...fell asleep with my face smashed against the tray table on the flight out....woke to see snow-capped peaks out the window hole to my left...and a lil' baby snoozing away to my right (with his lil' face all smashed up against his grandma)...

(Found out later that the friend who drove me the four hours to the airport had car trouble after she dropped me off..I was fortunate to have made it to the airport on time!)

Day Two: Strange not to see snow on the ground. Helped my sister herd her flock of urban-dwelling chickens...helped harvest and wash a handful of fresh eggs! Drove on down to my parentals in Castle Rock.

Day Three: My mom decided to lend me a camera to use in Alaska! A Canon Rebel is mine to play with for the year! SUCH A BLESSING! I love photography and am thrilled to pieces to try and capture some more of Alaska for you! Spent a chuck of this day fiddling with different settings and trying to stifle upsurges of joy!

Here are a couple snaps of the mountain views from my parents' house..

Mt. Rainier!

A view of Mt. St. Helens!

Day Four: Christmas shopping, novel reading, four wheeling, holiday munching, competitive card playing, ping pong, family time, excessive intake of sugar, afternoon strolls, &
the discovery of my strangely squishy nose...

My parents new-found passion for ping-pong nears obsession. I lack heart for the game.
I was the first to be eliminated in our family tournament.

Day Five: An early Christmas celebration! And some much loved time with the nephews!

Lil Weston! He has new, stylin' glasses. Such a sweetie....definitely all boy, but a gentle heart has he. He proudly sported the too large Alaska t-shirt I gifted him as soon as he unrolled it out of his stocking!

Wyatt! So proud of my oldest nephew.
This boy/budding-adolescent is a smarty...and he loves youth group at church! Lord, hold him fast and keep him steady during the tremulous years of middle school and high school!

Day Six: Back to Seattle... joined my bro-in-law for his family's Christmas fun and gift exchange!

Day Seven: A busy week came to an end and I flew back to Anchorage! Long road home after an afternoon of serious grocery shopping. I really do live in the middle of somewhere far from everywhere.

Mountain peaks just outside of Anchorage!

Oh tanenbaum....how lovely are your branches.

Thankful for safety all the way to the outside and back. Thankful for a day just to rest and catch up today. Thankful for a week of family time and fun memories. Thankful for airplanes that make such trips possible. Thankful for a warm home to come back to!
Back to work tomorrow.

Thank you all for your prayers this past week!

Yes, my dad plays the accordion...but usually just at Christmas time.
