Life has been busy, friends!
I spent all of last week in Anchorage attending an x-ray course.
Twas' fun to be a student again, even if just for a short time...
But after four eight-hour days of lecture,
caffeine was no longer cuttin' it and my brain felt a bit irradiated...
I will be practicing hands-on now through the summer before I am official given the okay to take x-rays for patients. While radiology may never be my forte, it is fun to have another practical health care tool to work at and develop, and for that I'm grateful!
How to explain it? It was nice just to be in a city for a few days...to be able to run some errands, to taste a bit of global diversity (Anchorage has people from everywhere!), to meet up with beautiful Rachel (who is adjusting to Alaska from the southern California-Biola-perspective as well), to hang out at Starbucks like the good-ol' college days, to babysit my friend Cynthia's niece and nephews. I'm definitely still in transition; I will probably always have some love and appreciation for the city.
A long time ago I posted a picture of sweet Honey... It was so good to babysit. I love these kids! Pray for them and their mom, Sophie. Life is really tough for them right now.
Left to right: Baby Zechaniah, Honey, Braden (Big brother Noah was at a friend's house).

Dare I say it? I had three busy days at work this week!
Lots of practice with IVs and immunizations....and x-rays too!
Let me share a favorite story:
I had a patient this week come in who was expressing a lot of fear that her "heart was going to stop." She was crying and very anxious. Heavy alcohol consumption was a part of this picture. I began taking vital signs and asking a few questions; typical triage stuff. With a couple questions she became rather defensive and upset, impatient for me to do something that would quickly and miraculously make her feel better. Then mid-blood pressure reading,
she blurted out, "are you a Christian? And could you pray with me?".
I sat down beside her, hand on her shoulder and prayed.
She cried out for forgiveness as we prayed.
Friends, this was one of the most amazing immediate transformations I have ever seen! Her composure completely changed! No longer anxious and distressed, her face, her body was relaxed and she was able to speak calmly and rationally. She said, "Wow. I feel sooo much better." It was truly a beautiful moment. Praise God for hearing us when we cry out to him, who really cares for his hurting children and is a generous lender of peace! May we never underestimate the power of prayer! The power of repentance and forgiveness!
Pray for this young woman. She knows the truth of God's salvation. She has attended Bible college..but her life has been wrecked and ravaged by sin, and in desperation, she sought solace repeatedly in the junk of this world.
Let's see...
Was able to babysit sweet Carsten yesterday. This darling baby (the son of one of our Cross Road office staff), is soo happy! What a gift little people are! Pray for his mama, Myla. A few hours after she picked him up from me she fell down the stairs when him in his car seat carrier. It is slick out there! (I fell yesterday too...). They are both okay, but Myla is pretty sore.

Going to be writing some articles for our local newspaper here in the Copper River Valley! Faith related articles, staff profiles, announcements, that kind of thing...should be a fun adventure! Be praying for wisdom and discernment for various faith-based articles I will be drafting! I feel so honored to have been asked to do this!
Tim has received all his support for Guatemala! He leaves this Tuesday!
Pray for him as he travels, pray for us in these weeks apart, pray for his time of service alongside Mike and Sandy Glick, pray for God to lead him, speak to him and use him as he works among the people of Guatemala city!
Headed to Fairbanks today for the ice sculpture festival with several friends.
Should be awesome! Pictures to come!
